For those of you who also buy bags and rolls from the US Mint do you find that the quality of the coins in the rolls are higher grade than those in the bags, vice versa, or no difference at all?

Having only collected rolls from the mint I would assume that they would be of better quality than those pieces contained in bags, however, I can't say for sure. The pieces contained within the "bag" wrapping are surely prone to more wear and "bag marks" due to them flopping around within that particular container.

Its usually 6 of one and half dozen of the other. I've had better luck with bank rolls than US mint rolls and usually bind better stuff out of US Mint bags. As for bag marks, I think thats really a nit on the smaller US Mint bags since all US Mint produced coins get dropped into "huge" ballistic bags before beiong sent to the packaging subcontraxctor.

I would imagine that the coins on the bottom of that bag have a lot of weight on them which would result in gouges, scrapes, and what not.

Been my experience that 15% of roll coins end up grading exceptable collectables and the rest get recycled for other coin purchases.
