:D These recently walked into some Friend's coin shops...

Images aren't great and some are only slab checks at best but I thought I would show them here just for information:

    NGC 1.jpg
I took the time to find the genuine examples on NGC's web site for image comparisons (bad ones on the left!):

For the US $5 gold the 1911-D had an example sold on the Bay, but the seller used the NGC slab images and then his cropped to not show the labels for comparison:

Bad $1911-D on the left from the listing:

I notified NGC about these; often they will make a note on the on-line cert about known counterfeits for the cert number...

    Stay thirsty my Friends:D!

Honestly with proper study and review! All of the info is available on the internet to properly research, especially the NGC slabs. It's the quick "spot buys" of items too good to be true that often burn folks...

    NGC $ guide is $8500 o_O...

From the ones you do find and identify there has to be thousands in private collections around the country.

The 2021 CC Morgan is hilarious to me. Man, that was the wrong coin to pick to fake, not even in the same universe as reality, unless it was sandblasted, dipped in acid, and run over by a mac truck a few times. :hungover::oops::wacky:

Best way to slow this down a lot is chipping slabs. If done right, next to impossible to duplicate or transfer. Will only slow it a lot, but not eliminate it, because there will always be folks who won’t be aware of it or won’t take advantage of it when they buy.

Wow! Hard for me to imagine this is happening at this magnitude. Thank you for assisting the hobby. I doubt you or any others that do what you do will ever get the recognition deserved.

Well, this scares the devil out of me.....

    1921 MS63 100th Anniv 2021 Special Label Morgan Silver Dollar NGC *0679

This is a stock image, the quality of the item you will receive will be equal to or better than the one in the photo.

Soo... are the ones brought to the coin shop legit coins in fake slabs? Or counterfeit coins in fake slabs?

Either way, it is terrible that the fakes have gotten so convincing :inpain:

The main reason I lost interest in collection ancients was the number of East European fakes...and now THIS!
Ultimately, this kind of crap can only harm the hobby.
Guess you really need to be able to REALLY trust whomever is selling you their coins.

A buyer needs to pay attention to detail.
A lot of those look good to me, BUT I don't look at many slabs.
I have a few I could reference, but the grading sites to look up certs with pictures really help.
I did notice on the bad slabs the coin holding tabs are usually wider or more of them 3vs4 tabs.
Thanks Jack, education is the key
