The mint has already backordered the Bison Nickel until 3/15/05. I guess bulk purchase dealers like P.T. Barnum on Shop At Home knocked out all the small collectors from purchasing today's nickel release. The US Mint service to small customers is getting worse every day. No one to complain to about it. Watch PT have them for sale on his next show for for $15.95 for P&D rolls, or something like that amount. I don't buy from him, as he is overpriced on everything. Jim
I just looked on the mints web site, and it seems to me that they are still available. I got my order in at 12:15, but I just tried again (without going all the way through checkout) and had no notice of a back order. I suspect that they just got overwhelmed with online orders.
Good luck getting them at the bank, Speedy. I called the Federal Reserve Bank here in Oklahoma City and they told me that they won't even receive a shipment from the Mint until the 3rd week of March. I called several of the larger banks in town and none of them have the nickels nor could they tell me when they would receive them. Perhaps where you live, the Feds will receive the nickels sooner. After all, we're kind of in the backwoods here in OKC... I ordered a couple of rolls from the Mint this morning and I figure I should receive them about the time they're starting to appear in pocket change.
Yup, backordered again. The entire ordering process kept saying "in stock" Then when the final confirmation screen appeared to print out, there it was "backordered until 3/--/05".
Scott I'm not sure when I'll get them...the banks are great about getting the nw coins as there must be alot of collectors so I should be geting them... Speedy
I've had good luck getting newly released coins at the bank, trouble is I only get Denver mint mark out here. I hate to pay $9.00 + S/H for $4.00 in nickles. But I really like this design & decided to cough up the $. Dave
Just ordered one each of the Philadelphia and Denver 500-coin bags. The Philly bag is backordered until 03/15/05. The Denver bag is in stock. I should have ordered them this morning. If you snooze, you lose...
Yesterday when I went to track my order on the US Mint Website, the page informed me that my Bison Nickels were backordered until 3/15/05. Today I went to the same place and clicked on track my order, the website tells me that my order is now backordered until 3/16/05. Anyone else notice this on their nickel order? Thanks, Jim
They ran out at about 1:45 I took an hour off work to get my order in, at 1:30 I ordered 6 sets no problem. I got ok from the wife and tried to order 10 more at 1:45 and got the backordered message.
Same thing happened to me! I was on the road and couldn't order until 2 pm. I feel like I've been manipulated to buy when the mint knew it would be back-ordered. Oh well! I am sure I will get them eventually.
The early releases of mint products must be driving the Mint employees crazy. I thought I would check my subscriptions with the mint today and guess what, now it appears that the 2005 11-coin proof sets are, what's the word I'm looking for, oh yeah....BACKORDERED!! Guess they didn't want the Bisons to be lonely.
Backordered schmackordered, we'll all get them in a couple weesk, maybe sooner is my guess. I am just upset that I let this bandwagon grab me as it went by. I ordered two sets of the rolls. I plan to split one open and put some of the nicer ones into 2x2s, and then have fun with the rest. I don't even like the design so much - it does not have the balance or the depth of the original. I do like the last one in the series, though - it is very nicely done. The Mint has been giving us some great collectables. I am all for ciruclating commems like this. I just wish they would actually circulate!!
Originally they had a 3/9 release date. Then they moved it up to 3/2. Now the invoice says backordered until 3/16. Sometime in march I guess!
I completely agree with one thing that Rugen said. The mint's service stinks and there is no one to complain to about it. I neve got any kind of notice about my nickel set. If I hadn't gone online to check when I saw the hubub on the bulletin board I would still be expecting to get it in the mail. Instead, they cancelled my order without even notifying me, and I had mine accepted within the firs 15 minutes that they started taking orders. Something needs to be done about the way the mint does business, but the fact remains that NO ONE IS INTERESTED IN CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS. They have the collector by the "short hairs". Either you put up with their crap, or pay premium prices to big dealers, or just don't collect coins. Steve
I just checked my order and it says the order was shipped today (3/2/05). I quess I'm one on the lucky ones? Geod
