Hey all, I got my coins back from PCGS today. I sent in one 1991 $5 AGE, a 1883 Hawaii dime, a 1956 wheat cent with great toning, and a 1909 VDB. The VDB came back Genuine, Questionable Color. What do you guys think about the VDB (or the others) 1909 VDB PCGS "Genuine-91:Questionable Color" 1956 Wheat cent PCGS MS64RB nicely toned 1991 $5 AGE PCGS MS68 1883 Hawaii 10 cent PCGS F15
If the color of the photographs are accurate then I would agree with the assessment on the 1909 VDB. Ruben
The VDB toned a bit of a brassy color but nothing that I find unusual at all! I do not agree with QC one bit! Just my personal opinion.
Nice coins North49guy!! That 1991 AGE really looks familiar!! Great grades on the coins submitted!! Congrats! RickieB
Looks original from here ( based on internet pics ), what would have been helpful would be rim pics....so many times doctors and recolorers forget about the rim, one look and " busted ".......... Your rims are generally darker as thats where they are held more often, but an obvious doctored coin can be spotted many times by the rims, not the surfaces themselves.
Is it my imagination, or since PCGS has stopped bodybagging, are a lot more coins are being ungraded -genuine for color or surface than when they BBed? Do they record the number of "genuine" submissions for population reporting? Jim
That 1909 reminds me of a 72-DDO I saw somewhere else before. The other three are cool coins, I really like the Hawaii coin.
They still body bag coins...but they will slab coins with some problems. Coins that are counterfeit obviously won't be slabbed and if I remember right (I could be wrong) they won't slab repaired coins...unless they changed that.
I stand corrected. If I was more specific I'd had said they now slab problem coins as long as they are genuine with a Genuine Label.
