Azores islands are situated in Atlantic Ocean. It has an area 2346 sq.km. & a population about 243000. In 1427 the portuguese navigator Diego de Silvesh visited Azores and in 1439 portuguese king Juan I decided to begin the colonization of that islands. During the second half of the XVth century a Portuguese & Spanish arrived on Azores and founded a first settlements. In XVIth century the French and Dutch arrived too. Since XVIth century the population of Azores become a multinational. During the 1580-1640 Azores was the Spanish ownership, because Portugal lost an independence. In 1640 Portugal become an independent country again and Azores become was returned to the Portuguese king. In the second half of the XVIIth century Azores become a very important trade port for the European and American navigators. In the XVII & XVIIIth centuries Azores was a main transit station for the American import to Europe (ecpecially for a gold and silver). During the XIX & XX centuries Azores become an agricultural islands. In 1976 Azores got an autonomy as the self-government Portuguese province.
