    Well the Alexander quarter stater turned out to be a fake so I returned it and instead I bought me a few Saladin dinars :happy::). I think I did OK out of it....:happy:;)

    Sorry the Alexander was a fake.
    Very nice examples. I only have one. Your Alexandria example is sharper than mine.
    this coin was a must for me because Saladin was a major historical figure.

    Now to find something nice from Richard I.:happy:

    I read that when Sultan Salah ad Din (Saladin) died he only had 1 gold dinar and 40 silver pieces in his personal possession, having distributed all his personal wealth to his poorer subjects. What remained with him was not sufficient to cover the costs of his own burial.

    Imagine getting hold of that last Dinar.....WOW!!!

    I finally managed to acquire an Egyptian coin issued by Saladin after reading Steven Runciman's three-volume History of the Crusades twice.

    Ayyubid Sultanate Dinar, Saladin, Cairo, AH 584 (AD 1188)
    Gold, 21.0 mm, 6.80 gm
    Mint: Cairo (al-Qahira) Egypt

    Obverse:
    Ring outer: Quran Surah 9:33: Muhammad is the messenger of Allah
    Ring inner: King Saladin, High Quality
    Center: Yusuf ibn Ayyub (Saladin)

    Reverse:
    Ring outer: In the name of God this dinar was struck in Cairo in the year 584
    Ring inner: There is no god but Allah, Abu al-Abbas al-Nasir, Defender of the Faith, Commander of the Faithful
    Center: al-Imam Ahmad (Leader Ahmad) (Abu al-Abbas al-Nasir and Ahmad are both names of the Abbasid Caliph)

    This coin was minted in AH 584 (AD 1188-1189), a year after the battle of Hattin.
