To make up for posting that ugly "Globular Cross" Stater from the Carnutes, here is a nicer one... john photos 1 024 (Medium).jpg john photos 1 023 (Medium).jpg

So when you say AV you mean Au right? Gold? Is it a language thing?

AV is standard shorthand for gold with ancients(from the latin avrvm or aurum). Similarly, AR is shorthand for silver(From argentvm/argentum) and AE for bronze(from aenevs or aeneus)

Very artistic style for a Celtic coin. That horse is amazing!

Looking in the dictionary, aeneus apparently does mean brass or copper, but this is the first I have heard it. Æ is generally held to be the abbreviation of aes (pronounced like 'ice'). Thus, Æs Grave, not Æneus Grave. Additionally, lead is abbreviated PB, from Latin plumbum.

Well I understand the elements with the Latin symbols. I have always seen gold written Au though, with that little non-Latin letter u.

I think that coin may be electrum rather than gold.

It sure looks like that. But, Chris Rudd told me the Celtic people in Iron Age Briton struck their AV Staters in pale/rose colored gold. This man is the "expert" on Iron Age Celtic coinage from English tribes.

As the cataloger of that lot, trust me - it's gold. Pale/rose gold, but gold.

I'm a born sceptic, first off, so this be a little biased.
But whether that's gold or not, something seems off when you show up two days ago and post dozens of gold (only gold) coins all over the forum. No follow ups, just "look at my coin" and move on to the next. Something just doesn't add up to me.
