Next time I visit North America, I think I'll come and have a beer with you while swimming in your pool full of gold. Fantastic as usual ! Q
Hey-hey-hey, if there's gonna be a Canadian ancient coin tour then it'd better start at my fricken house!! #6 North Pole => RSVP .... eh, or just show-up with boooze-n-coins
I love this stuff. I'm sure you've seen my Gelderland goldgulden/florin with a similar John the Baptist design. Not as high grade as yours, but I like the contrast of the toning on mine, the way it makes the design stand out. My goal is to one day own one of the early-dated coins (pre-1500 with an actual date on the coin), listed in the Robert Levinson "Early Dated Coins of Europe" book. I've owned that book for years and have yet to own a single coin listed in it! But while I was browsing and looking at early dated coins and gold of the period, I found this Gelderland piece on a Dutch website, and had to have it. Even though it isn't a dated piece, I'm quite fond of it.
Great minds think alike, I also have that book. I have early dated coins from 700AD -1400's....probably 40 or so. But that is unfair, they are Arabian Caliphates and are dated AH calender. I have a Dobla from Alfonso VIII dated 1212AD in arabic. Also some from Frankfurt/ Brandenburg-Franconia....I will post them.
