AV 4 Dukaten (13.99g.) 1848-A Vienna Mint
Emperor Ferdinand I 1835-48
Ferdinand became Emperor of Austria-Hungary after Franz II died. In 1848 Franz-Josef I succeeded him.

Thanks Mat/ that is why I cannot just collect ancients....I love the coins struck post 1200AD too! The Habsburgs designed some of the most beautifull coins, sad that we cannot say the same about modern coinage.

 

I had been on a Great Britain buying spree this past month with mostly queen vicky. I like world moderns too. I just don't love u.s., especially 20th century u.s.

 

I agree, however I do think the St. Gaudens Double Eagle/Indian Head Eagle/ Liberty $20/$10/$5/$2.50 are beautifull. I really like the 1915-S Pan-Pacific $50 commeratives.

 

Early 20th is OK, peace dollar is my favorite. But pretty much anything with a president head sucks.

 

I would 100 percent agree! I must say, Emperors/Empresses/Kings/Queens look way better! So do the Roman Emperors/Empresses/Usurpers....esp. Postumus.

Nice! I have about 50 from Austria/ Hungary/ Austro-Hungarian Kaiser Reich. Many from Holy Roman Empire.
