Got this little Gem from Rauch Auction. Obv. Franz I (Holy Roman Emperor) Rev. Double Headed Habsburg Eagle In 1526 Sulieman the Magnificent crushed the Hungarian Army led by Louis II at Mohacs. The old kingdom of Hungary was now occupied by the Ottoman Turks. Transylvania became a vassal state allied to the Sultan. By 1683/ the Habsburg armies "liberated" Hungary from Ottoman rule/ seeing the writting on the wall, Michael Apafi stepped down as Prince and invited Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I to add Transylvania to the Empire, also included in the deal was a specially minted 100 Dukaten Michael Apafi gold presentation coin!
If you can acquire that with the limited time when working 14 hours a day I hate to think what you can do during a 4 month break.
Actually this may seem crazy/ but I still find time to check auctions on sixbid site during my busy time. Either before bedtime/ or after I get up at 6:00AM During work/ I am always thinking about coins....
Splendid coin, as usual. Franz looks a bit grumpy. I would not have wanted to been in the palace when the emperor was in a bad mood.
If the date had been before 1763.....I would have bet it was Friedrich Der Grosse's fault/ since the Prussian Army was usually victorious over the Austrians under Franz I and his wife Empress Maria Theresia or.....it could have been that Maria was putting on a lot of weight
