Hello everyone, I would like you guys to tell me whether this coin is authentic or not. Also, it would help to know if it is a proof or not and what the value would be. Thanks for any help!!! : )
Looks like the obverse was cleaned and maybe buffed a bit. I'll opine genuine, but with some problems. Not a proof. Wait for more opinions.
looks real. cleaned. Great Britain 1845 if it's the 1/2 crown size ? KM#740, .925 silver, weight- 14.1380g or .4205oz size-30.1mm, mintage-2,232,000 from my 2004 Krause world coin catalog: grade/value F-$26.00 VF-$60.00 XF-$375.00 UNC-$650.00 if it's the crown size ? KM#741, .925 silver, weight- 28.2759g or .8409 oz. size-37mm, very low mintage-159,000 from my 2004 Krause world coin catalog: grade/value F-$35.00 VF-$125.00 XF-$850.00 UNC-$2,250.00 I am having a hard time trying to figure out this grade. these values are higher now just not sure how much higher ? wait for members here that collect Great Britain coins to give their grade and updated current value.
With the wear and rim dings, it isn't super collectible - unless someone just needs the date for a cheap set. Without seeing diameter/weight, it is hard to determine denomination. A Crown would be much more desirable and collectible than a 2/6.
I don't see anything pointing to it being fake. I do see some problems with the coin, however. British collectors tend to be a bit more strict with their grading. With the problems, a British collector would probably call this VG. By US standards, this may make Fine, but just barely.
It appears to be genuine and is a Crown, not a half crown. (The position of the lettering gives it away even without a scale.) UK grade would, as previously suggested, probably be "vg". Despite the low mintage, these are not that scarce in this condition. Latest Spink gives it £65 in Fine and so a bit less for this one in a lower grade. (I see them regularly at auctions on Ebay. The price jumps appreciably as soon as you get to VF and above.)
