Hello, I came by this coin. Austrian Gold Ducat 1840. In Numismaster catalog there are 1 and 4 Ducats coins. However, this coin is larger ,weighting 11.3g ( instead of ~3.5) Can anyone help me identify it ?? Gabriel
Gabriel, First ... Welcome to Cointalk ! Well Gabriel you correctly identified the coin as Austrian but incorrectly the Country of Austria. The coin you have there is an Italian States: Lombardy-Venetia 1840V Sovrano KM# C21.3 / Fr.482 (Friedberg list it under Austria) Weight: 11.33g @ .9000 gold = .3278 oz. AGW List value is XF=$1500 / UNC=$3000 These northern regions (duchies) of Italy were ruled by the French from 1805-1814 under the Kingdom of Napoleon and after his fall these areas were awarded to Austria from 1814-1859 as the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia. Thus the Austria design of the coin.
Thanks Thanks you, silvereagle82 GDJMSP for the identification. I really had trouble with that one. My coin collection carreer so far is very short, My wife inherited a collection and I am tasked with splitting it between her and her sister. However, dealing with coins ( especally gold) is addictive. So I will probably develop it further. Now, only one mystery coin is left ( I posted a query) Thanks Gabriel
