Here's a couple of rolls of Australian coins I have. Any thoughts? Even if you just started you probably know more about these than I.

Thanks for thinking of me they appear to be Australian fifty cent pieces.
Most of the australian money now comes from the Raoyal Australian mint in Canberra but the new really nice coins proofs for collectors and commeratives come from the Perth Mint. The Silver Jublee coins are in reference to Queen Elizabeths rein. I ham having trouble viewing the other ones given a little more time I can identify them for you.

although I am into collecting the Australian coins- I have limted knowledge as I only lived there 8 years and am new to coillecting and would like to try my hand and the silver and gold bullion coins they have as well.

The Second roll looks like the 1982 Commonwealth games (Brisbane) half dollar.
Hope this is correct and helps you.

I collect/hoard attractive large copper coins from around the world and have found a lot of nice circulated semi-key date Australian pennies and half pennies in dealers junk boxes, including a couple key date 1946 pennies. The 1939 'Roo reverse half penny is also out there, usually less than a dollar. Seems a lot of American coin dealers aren't too keen on researching these pieces. I think this will be fun for you!

I am a bit thick, are you recommending I search out these coins or are you offering to sell them?

No selling. I couldn't bear to part with my coins. I'm simply relating my experiences with collecting Australian coins. There are lots of series and denominations to collect. Have you thought about what you want to collect? A particular series, denomination, era, metal, mint sets, proof sets, rolls??? I'm partial to the early coppers.

So far my intrest is in the silver Kookaburras and the gold kangaroos.
Much easier to afford the Kookaburras than the Kangaroos- I am starting with the 1/20 oz coins- affordable- than I will see where my collection takes me. I have only been doing this for one month.
I will post pics later - I have the Silver Lunar coins and the gold lunar 1/20th coins I also have most ot the Unc Silver Kookaburra series including the twotone used in my avtar.
My plan is to attend the FUN meeting in Fort Lauderdale in January and see what the big boys are doing.

Sounds like FUN! You've chosen a couple series that should make an impressive collection. When you're at the FUN show, try to look at some of the early Australian coppers. Maybe you'll find those interesting, too. Enjoy!

Aussie coins are popular with those collecting the coins of British Commonwealth countries.Yes,there is a lot of scarce pieces in the Aussie pre-decimal series.Apart from the 1930 1d.,there is the 1934-35 Melbourne Centenary Florin (2/-),the 1922/1 3d.,which is extremely rare. The 1921 Star 1/- occasionally turns up.Aussie St George gold is relatively available, but the Sydney Mint gold of the 1855-70 period very seldom turns up in any grade.
I have got an 1865 Sydney Mint Half Sovereign, but
    I don't have the 2 5/- crowns (1937 & 1938).

    Australian coin pics

I was asked to supply some pics of my coins so here are some nice Australian coins.

Note in Australia the reverse changes each year on many of the coins and every so often the queen is aged on the obverse
