i liked australia & new zealand silver coins dated 1940's and below. it is 92.5% silver. the problem is there were very few "dollar size" silver coin. i collect a lot of large pennies. just like the british large pennies during early years. the half penny is also my favorite collection. others like shillings and pence.
Annie, the first silver coins from New Zealand date from 1933.There was 2 silver 5/- crowns - 1935 (which is extremely rare),& the 1949 (commemorates the cancelled Royal Visit of King George VI).The 1953 Coronation 5/- is cupro-nickel.The Halfpenny & Penny was first issued in 1940. Aussie silver coins were all Sterling silver (.925) right through to 1945,when the fineness was cut down to .500 fine silver. Aidan.
australia and new zealand i like the new zealand coins better than the australia. because it was fewer mintage and beautiful designed.
New Zealand coins followed in the footsteps of that of British coins, especially in terms of fineness, when first issued. Aidan.
