Pretty nice coin but what stands out to me is the seller won't ship to Australia, Spain, France or the United Kingdom, etc. but Afghanistan, for example, is not a problem?
Maybe I'm a TPG snob, but a coin like that in an ANACS holder? If you plan to sell a coin for five figures, it should be in a tier one PCGS/NGC with CAC. Not that I believe that makes the coin better or worse, but it's an investment in the salability of the coin.
I'll bring up old wounds. I've seen his account associated with numerous complaints. And in fact when I was looking at some coins he had - I saw that many of the bidders for his auctions have 90% or better bids - only with him. That to me screams SHILL. And if you look at the top 2 bidders right now, you will see that the details prove I'm right. 94% and 98% of bids with that same seller. SHILL!!!! Caveat Emptor!
Even if the coin is legit, high retail is 29,000 max. The "details" could cut that figure down. I don't know where they get this "$50,000" price from. If they are using shill bidders that is illegal, and not just on Flea Bay. But everywhere. They are hoping someone is going to try to snipe one of the shills and get it at a "bargain". If it was real why aren't they selling it through Heritage or some other legitimate auction house? If they are willing to sell it for half of it's expected value, ($12,100 currently) then something is fishy with this coin and these sellers.
Below is the history of this coin from the seller. THIS IS THE HISTORY OF THIS COIN:: Ex New Netherlands Coin Co. #51, 6/1958:279-Hollinbeck Coin Co., 1964 ANA Sale, Federal Brand Enterprises, lot 72-Hollinbeck Kagin Coin Co. MBS #285, 9/1969:986-Hollinbeck Kagin Coin Co.-Kagin's Numismatic Auctions #310, 10/1977:52-Kagin's-unknown-1995 ANA Sale, Heritage 8/17/1995:5582-Gary Parietti-Ronald Cooper 7/14/1996-Colonel Steven Ellsworth-2009 EAC Sale, McCawley & Grellman Auctions 4/18/2009:142 According to Breen's Encyclopedia of early large cents this coin was listed as F-15, sharpness of a VF-25 but lightly tooled. This coin should be easy to trace back to ensure authenticity. If the coin is tooled, that lowers the price. By the way I don't know this seller nor have I bought from them.
While this is true for many coins, if it is a "details" piece it might not matter as much (authenticity is likely the biggest concern and Anacs should be fine for that). Plus one can't get a CAC sticker for non-straight graded coins even in NGC/PCGS holders.
