Question to pose to you fine folks. You have two coins in front of you, one is a MS-60 the other an AU-58.
    Which one would you purchase.

This is somewhat of a trick question, but here me out:

I would purchase the AU-58. I have seen so many “sliders” that look like they are MS-65+ coins, they are very pleasing to the eye. Almost all of the ms-60 coins I have seen have been bag marked, spit on, thrown out a moving car, etc. ( I am kidding about the spit and car thing, but you know what I am talking about )
I guess that’s one of the things that confuses me about the grading system/pricing system.
Ugly wins when comparing AU-58 to MS-60

    Thoughts?

If I were putting together a set of Uncirculated coins, I would either pass and wait for a better MS example, or buy the MS60.

If I were putting together a set of circulated coins, I would definitely grab the AU58.

If I were an "investor" instead of a collector, I would have to take the MS example, unless I believed I could crack out the AU and get a better grade on resubmission.

In other words - It Depends.[IMG]

First I would look for any signs of wear...then I would pick the one that fit in best with my collection...mroe than likely it would be the AU..

    I'd pick the AU one

I would pick the coin with the better strike, and less bag marks. I'd rather have a good-looking AU, than an ugly BU. I also assume the AU is probably priced lower, and, IMHO, a better value than a poor-quality BU.

I think that the AU58 coin would be the way to go.I'm sure that to me it would look better than a MS60.
