I always have trouble taking Pics of coins in slabs. What's the best method in doing so?

If you find a better way than I did, let me know. Lighting is the most annoying part; lighting them enough to show up well but in a way that doesn't reflect too much off the coins.

I agree on the lighting issue. I've also tried setting the holder up but at an angle with different types of lighting. That's all I got as far as taking Pics of coins in slabbed holders.

    Here's what I do.
I have a gray desk mat and I lay the slab flat or I lean it against my coffee coaster ( hmmm, I should get a new one) and which ever looks the best I use. I have a wall lamp with a LED and a dimmer to effect the lighting, which I didn't bother with for these photos and the Morgan just happen to be on my desk.
    I use PhotoScape to crop the images. 20240714_062115 y.jpg 20240714_062126 y.jpg

That does look like an antique coaster.

I use my phone on a small tripod on my desk, and an LED desk lamp. Kinda got to get just right, then crop out all the extra space. A little glare, but works well for coins behind plastic.

That's not so bad, we get the gist of it...nice specimens!

    Regarding other attempts:

The LAPD arrested 2 crows for attempted murder! But a judge dismissed the charge, saying that with only 2 perps, he didn't think they could prove the charge. :D

Nice shots and interesting approach - is that a reflector from a flashlight or something similar?

I have done a decent job with the camera I've had for 30 years. It's old, and I would like a new one, but both of my attempts to find a replacement have failed.

I would love to get some good advice, the guys in the camera stores have failed so far.
