Last week I decided to try my luck at rolls of nickels from my bank, instead of the usual rolls of halfs. That guy in Coin World did nickels lately and got good stuff- but he always gets good stuff! That gave me the idea to try it also. First of all what I got were all in those tight plastic rolls- ugh! so hard to manipulate and from past experience with plastic rolled coins I figured I'd get next to nothing for the effort. How right I was- all were Jeffersons an d most from '64 up. I did get 2 42-D's, a 39 in XF/AU and abt a dozen in the 40's and 50's mostly P and D.
So exactly what do you do? Trade in $100 for $100 worth of nickels at the bank and sort through them to see if you find anything good?
Keep trying. Ive always had the best luck with Nickels. I usually find one or two silver Nickels and alot of early jeffersons. But I save all the S mints that I find as well. But I havent found much for Buffalo Nickels, people notice those and usually grab them. Anyhow, keep trying and better luck next time.
i have found buffalo, liberty ,and a lot of early jeffersons. i have also came across proofs , all kinds of forign and a few suprises. they are out there you just have to keep looking. each case is a treasure hunt. wvrick
thats right Jonathon. Its the best way to stay actively collecting even if your broke, Sometimes you even save money because you end up with 300 dollars in cents at the end of the month
I usually find a silver (war nickel) out of about every 30 bucks in nickels. And usually one or two buffalos out of ever $100. But I usually only search $20 at a time. Anyway, keep searching.
Stay away from nickels. You will NOT find anything, because I am the only one allowed to find the good stuff.
