I've just confirmed that the dansco 7000 does contain PVC in it's pages. I am taking my coins out of it. Just wanted to give yall a heads up if you didn't know, as I didn't know until today. stainless
The pages are vinyl, and I called Brent Kreuger is where I got the info (I called them, and they told me). stainless
I'm not overly familiar with all Dansco albums, so my question is why is it just in the 7000 album? All the ones I've seen are similiar. Thanks. davdo.
Ya know...in this day and age, it amazes me they would knowingly use PVC laced material. Lets be honest, its been a known fact for years that there's issues with it, and here they are, in a numismatic related business.
The 7000 model is a dansco album that have 9 2x2 pages, holds 108 coins total. I didn't know that they were vinyl, no "beach ball" smell or anything, just that typical new dansco smell. I seen that you could buy extra pages on Brent Krueger that were vinyl for the album, which made me wonder...So I called, and the customer service rep told me that they were. Thing is though, Dansco's are supposed to be archival safe...and I am still confused why I can't smell the "beach ball" scent. And the fact that all the other albums are perfectly safe, with the exception of this one and the currency one stainless
Ahhh, that makes more sense. The ones that hold 2X2's have to be soft. And its the PVC that makes the plastic soft. Their other albums are the ones you put the coins directly in, and they are archival quality. That is why it is only those 2 albums that have PVC. I don't know about the whole beach ball or shower curtain smell thing. But I have some pages for 2X2's that I know contain PVC, and they don't smell like that at all. I only use them for my cheap foreign coins, most of which I got for free.
Hope everyone read that last point that the PVC is in the Dansco's that hold 2x2 flips. I didn't know they made those. I love my albums, and the Kennedy's are toning wonderfully which I love. I put coins in I am ok with toning. The tone slowly as there is sulfur in the particleboard. I bought an Intercept state quarter album for fun and the coins spin around. No friction. I can't stand that album. They coins are all crooked. Ridiculous design.
Prior to that possibility has anyone confirmed this with the Dansco Company? In the past I've heard that Zip Lock Bags have PVC. I called the manufacturer and was told completely not true. Heard the same about Tupperware. I did the same and called. Also, not true. Hopefully someone will just call Dansco and ASK. I use Whitman so no big thing.
For future reference, anything you use with food has no PVC, to include ziplock bags, tupperware, etc.. PVC (the plastic softener, not the pipe material) is not approved for food or drinking products in the US, IIRC....Mike
And that is exactly what I was told by those companies when I called. However, always good to have someone state that and record it. As to Dansco. If any members are in the LosAngeles, Ca area you may want to try 323-734-6373 for thier main office. 4313 W. Jefferson Blvd so you could even stop in and ask them personally. If anyone does, let us all know.
Okay I called the number...when they get a customer service rep who can understand freakin english, I will call back. stainless
LOL...too funny...you probably got the call centre in India. ya know..this PVC crap really causes alot of pandimonium...Im sick of always second guessing everything I'm told. What really angers me is the companies that specialize in numismatic supplies, are knowingly continuing to use it.
