I have read other threads, older ones and oh my, some of the questions asked and how our pros answered was priceless. The one about the 5 strings on Tennessee guitar and the stars on the flag the little boy is holding on Ellis Island rev. I looked at this one today and I took a double take. Thought tampering but machine possibly? I did look in PCGS and it showed a variety.
On the reverse I had noticed the little boy’s face. So I guess if it’s damage, I guess it’s no question. Just found it interesting how it can change an image.
What is it about the face? Your images aren’t bad but what exactly do you see? I could guess, perhaps machine doubling on the viewers right profile?
This is an older thread, but since it was mine and you researched the original post, is this one below improperly annealed?
The reverse has the look, the obverse I’m not so sure. Thus, I can’t provide an opinion from your photos.
