This is in Saltville, VA. The area is known for Civil War battles and camps as well as the salt mines where prehistoric creatures got stuck and died. They've found mastodons and wooly mammoths as well as the footprints of a giant sloth so large, paleontologists figure that if he stood up, he could reach the roof of your house. Lots of marine animal fossils as well, meaning the ocean covered this area back in the dinosaur times. They had some coins found around the area on display as well. I didn't bother to tell them that they had the date and type wrong on the trime. Still. Neat stuff. My son is here for a dig. The area they are digging today is searching for fossils from 10,000-12,000 years ago. He's hoping to find a saber tooth tiger skull. I'm hoping he finds a coin... but if so it'll likely be someone's pocket change lol.
