Asian Coin

Hello all,
I am not a coin collector. I would like to know where this coin is from and the year it was minted. Not looking for the worth or wanting to sell it. My Grandfather gave it to me. Thanks for any help.

I am assuming Japan.

 

Taiwan. 1954, 5 Chiao. Mintage 279,624,000. Value 10 cents
Sun Yat-sen on obverse.

Then, since it was given to you by your grandfather and it reminds you of your friend, the value just increased.
