I just got done opening a roll of nickels, and inside I found a brass-colored coin which is slightly smaller than a nickel. On the obverse it has a bald man, facing left, with 8 Asian characters around the top. On the reverse is two more Asian characters, with a "1" underneath them. No date (in English, anyway) is shown. Before I have a chance to get a picture, any guesses as to what this might be?
Sounds a bit like a Taiwanese 1 Yuan. http://worldcoingallery.com/countries/coin.php?image=img1/42-551&desc=Taiwan y551 1 Yuan (1981-1994) What do I win? (I've got lots of these!)
The one Topher linked to is dated Republic Year 83 (1994) above Chiang Kai Shek's bust. Reading from right to left the date is expressed as Republic of China Number Year.
Here is one page that I created that hopefully will come into use: http://www.gxseries.com/numis/asian_yr/asian_yr.htm
