I dont know enough about toning to pass judgment but will say it is rather stunning to look at. De Orc :smile
Do you have any idea as to what causes the coin to go a particular colour rather than (What I usualy see) Rainbow? is it something to do with the make up of the coin itself or the enviroment?? I find this facinating De Orc :kewl:
This is a coin, that if money were no object, I'd want even if it was artificially toned. But looks like it could be natural. Amzing looking thing. I have a 1964 Lincoln cent that has a nice purplish-magenta tone to it I saved. It's a favorite in my collection, even if it's only worth 1 cent, lol.
Pretty color, but toning is an "in" thing right now. As with all fads, this will change, die hards aside. I would not be suprised to see "toned" coins fall off their pedistal and be counted as "damaged" coins in the future.
Time will tell....I say this having held on to a nice magenta 1984 Jefferson I've had since I pealed it out of its blister in the newspaper in came in. Hmmm....that's an idea for a thread.....
You're right, it is. But the one thing about it that is different from other fads - that is that there has always been a sizable group of collectors who favored toned coins. That group will never change.
