is ther any way to tell artificial toning from natural toning? also dose toning do any thing to the value of a coin? sorry for the dumb questions but im kind of a newb.
hi, here you can find all answers to your question, hopefully http://rg.ancients.info/guide/toning.html
You can also ask this question on the PCGS web site. You'll always get a variety of answers from a variety of individuals since everyone has thier own opinion. I usually go to a coin show at least once a month and sometimes 3 or 4 times in one month. My experience with many coin dealers and collectors is beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some individuals love toned coins because they believe that means they have not been tampered with. Others spend numerous hours trying to tone coins to appease these individuals and are so good that sometimes the experts can not tell the coin has been artificially toned. Some refuse to buy a coin that is so toned. Others don't want a coin that is toned and would rather buy one that is cleaned because they don't care about resales. I would rather have all my coins in the same shape which means looking new so I don't buy or want toned coins. The value depends on who is buying, who is selling and where they are selling and mnay other aspects of coin collecting. Good Luck.
