Went to the bank today and got two rolls of Arizona quarters to look for the Extra Cactus error.

I noticed that one quarters MM was very different than the rest of the roll. IT has very little detail to it. As you will see from the pictures it looks very different than the others. Other lettering to the coin is also affected. What may have casued this on only one coin?

Mind you, this was the only coin that exhibited this.

Next I found this one. There are many deep striations going through Washingtons neck.

Then I found what Im guessing is the lesser valued Extra Cactus error. The picture shows the area where the initials are. The little bump to the Northwest of the area is the Extra Cactus.

I do agree with you that the Arizona quaters are particularly messy.

The second picture you have is of the lessor value one extra cactus error, but make sure you look at the top part of the cactus. Some of these are showing an extra branch, which is acually another die chip.

Also, look for some needles below the banner on the reverse.

It looks like the Arizona quarter may be the next Minnesota (with all its varieties).

Wonder if the mint is doing this on purpose to raise interest ?

ALL of our coinage is crap. So is our currency. I was looking the other day at a new $5 side by side with an old style $5. When you do that, you can really see the "artwork" and craftsmanship it took to make the old style. It looked, well, professional. Important. Valuable. These new ones look like a kindergarten project gone horribly wrong. (No offense to any kindergarteners reading this). When I go to the bank I always see if they have any old style bills.....Don't get me started on the coins.....:goof: :desk:

*sigh* such is the world today

I do not believe the first set of pictures to be post mint. The rolls I got were both from the mint packaging facility and this coin was near the middle of the roll.

I noticed you live in Maricopa.....me too. I am new to CT. Neat to find some one who lives "just down the street" as it were!

I would agree with Treashunt. Regardless of where it comes from, they still go through some kind of counting machine.

The mint doesn't have a packaging facility for rolls. That is done outside the mint by the same private firms that roll the coins for the Federal Reserve. So it is post mint. In fact anything that happens to the coin after the dies open back up after striking is "post mint" even if it happens whaile th coins are still inside the Mint.
