Hmmmmm - Check out the auctions of tuesdaynightcoins on Ebay. Especially the non slabbed copper coins, also the walking Liberty quarters, large cents and gold. Many of the copper and gold coins appear to be coated w/ toning laquer? Thousands of $'s being sold... real or not.
Well, I looked over some of his auction; I'm a Morgan type, so I looked at them first, then looked at some of his coppers and Walking Liberties (didn't go through all 400+ lots). Then I looked at his profile http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback&userid=tuesdaynightcoins . My overall impression is that the guy is a little loose with his grade estimations of his raw coins, over-values his lower-tiered and non-tiered slabs, doesn't have very much negative feedback (only three of 5309 which is quite good), doesn't want to spend that extra 15 cents for an image of the reverse on many/most of his sales, presents very poor(read: mostly none) descriptions of what he wants me to buy, looks like he may Photoshop some of his pictures, tends to be a bit abrupt about his selling, return, and shipping terms, and may or may not lacquer, polish, whiz, dip, or otherwise alter some of his coins, but I don't think any of them are fake. He certainly overstates the values - take for example this 1942 Proof: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=39457&item=3964633316&rd=1 ; he presents no description at all, calls it "Premium Quality", but it's got a big fat fingerprint on what may be a polished or dipped obverse. I happened to look at one of his Morgan auctions a few days ago. The raw '92-CC had what I thought were misleading pictures, his MS-65 was probably at best MS-62 if it wasn't cleaned or polished, and I didn't like the tone of his auction, so I passed him by. In short, my opinion is that the seller is slippery, out to make a buck, possibly an abusive negative person, and someone with whom I would not want to do business. But, I don't think he's overtly dishonest although he might skirt the edge from time to time.s
Thanks for the feedback MorganFred. I value your opinion - from your "credentials" its obvious to see you have a lot of experiance behind it. It makes me feel better about the coin I recvd from him. Dave
