Hello everyone! I was wondering if these $2 bills were worth much? I inherited these from my great-grandfather.
Usually these postmarked "first day issues" sell in the $3 to $5 range, but not always... here's an auction for four that failed to sell at $15.99: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1976-Sequential-UNC-2-bills-4-total-post-marked-w-release-date-and-w-stamp-/121110326279?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c32bcec07&nma=true&si=s66e%252BAB1Z%252B4gupLnhRFxlb8rl%252B4%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 You can check eBay completed listings for more info on selling price. However, if your great-grandfather gave them to you, the value to you is priceless.
We weren't close... I would rather sell them to someone who can enjoy them more then I can, but thank you!
I read somewhere that the mint where they were printed have some factor on worth? I researched that these were printed in Kansas City.
As Steve mentioned above, all notes are printed in one location, and then distributed to the 12 Federal Reserve banks (districts); Kansas City is one of those districts. Here's some fundamental info on U.S. circulating currency: http://www.minneapolisfed.org/community_education/teacher/pictures.cfm?
I still find the postmarked bills in banks occasionally, when people fall on hard times they spend them. They are sort of neat if they are from your hometown though.
