I notice that the Perth Mint have the USS Missouri and HMS Hood coins. They are limited to 3500 and are part of the Fighting Ships of WWII series. Both coins are dated 2007. So would these be reissues or what. What do people think of them? http://www.perthmint.com.au/catalogue/uss-missouri-1oz-silver-proof-coin.aspx http://www.perthmint.com.au/catalogue/hms-hood-1oz-silver-proof-coin.aspx Thanks Shane
Based on the description at the website, they aren't reissues - they are just left over original issues that haven't sold yet. Considering the low mintage, that should tell you something about what the collector community thinks of them! With silver at ~$14.03/oz., paying $66.75 + S/H is one heck of a premium - just about on a par with buying into a Bernie Madoff stock market fund. If you are interested in collecting, there are thousands of better choices. If you are interested in investing, there are very few poorer choices.
hontonai is right, that is a huge price gap...the demand just isn't there. That said, it is an attractive coin. I would pay $25-$30 just because I do like the design. Of course I'll pay to have a penny pressed too. That's just fun.
