I got these two Morgans at a very reasonable price. They appealed to me because one is 8TF, the other CC. They're both beautiful, lustrous coins in hand; the scans sort of make them look dull but they aren't. Since they've probably been cleaned, I wondered whether they are gradeable? I've never sent anything away for grading before, and may not even have anything worth sending anyway...Thanks in advance.
if they have been improperly or harshly cleaned, then it's probably a no. I can't really tell well from those scans, but the first one looks XF, and the second looks VF. IMHO, they are not worth grading, but impossible to tell with those pics. Nice coins though!
Don't be too upset if the coins can't be slabbed. You said you got them at a reasonable price, and CC morgans are desirable in almost any condition. Over time, they will retone if exposed to the air. Once they reach the stage where the qualify as having an "old cleaning," a lot of the stigma will go away. You still have two decent coins, and slabbing isn't the be-all and end-all of the hobby.
We cant tell from the scans if they have been cleaned, pics would be better. They both look like there in pretty good shape, if there not cleaned I would be afraid of the big rim dent on the CC though.
Thanks!...I had wondered about that very thing. I plan to hang on to them for a long time anyway. And thanks to everyone for your comments.
