Are there a lot of beginner collectors?

I am going to concentrate on upgrading my Walking Liberty halfs and Flying Eagle pennies. To pay my way I have hundreds in face value of dimes and quarters to sell. My question is what is best way? Should I simply sell rolls? Or are there enough beginners for me to start grouping maybe 10 coins together at a time and sell on ebay? Lots and lots of Mercury and early Roosevelt dimes as well as plenty of Washington Quarters. They are pretty much what you found in bags 15-20 years ago so they are all circulated with mixed quality.

I was thinking of putting $10-$50 melt value on ebay starting at melt price. That will take a lot of work (photos & listings). But, I would consider it worth the effort if there are plenty of beginners in dimes & quarters.

    Appreciate opinions on this.

You are better off starting the bidding off at $.01 or $.99, it gets more people interested and more likely to develop a bidding war. As long as your listing clearly describes what you are selling there is no way it will go for under melt.

Personally I would start an auction at melt if you are comfortable with that. You can start a .99 auction but you run the risk of under selling yourself. And remember, the more auctions you start the more it costs as each is .30 to start. Factor in Ebay's fees going out plus Pay Pal fees for the service. Don't under cut yourself. There are enough buyers with deep pockets to buy everything you have at melt. Also make sure you have checked for varieties and errors. It would be a shame if impatience ruled and you could have something nice to put aside that could sell for more.

True. Ebay and Paypal fees can eat you alive if you are unlucky on your auction. You can list them here for free at a price you are comfortable with. Most junk silver sells by the roll. I do not think there are enough beginning collectors who would wish starter sets. Maybe pick out a complete set or two of the roosevelts. I believe they are 46 silver coins to the set. When I was bored at the coin shop I would pick out a set and then add 4 49 S's to make up a junk roll just to amuse myself.

Well, I'm new here and don't have sufficient posts to sell. And, don't think it is right after asking question about ebay then posting for sale here. This will be a pretty long process. If you want my ebay name, just send me a message and I'll answer.
    Thanks for all the input,

Agreed, you can sell on here for melt or even a little better. Easier to list by the roll. Definitely dig through all your dimes before listing; once they're sold, the errors/varieties all belong to the new owner.

And you don't have to worry about beginners. There are plenty of people out there with alot of experience that hoard silver coins -

Regis - another answer, then you only need 2 more posts - I'm thinking of a coin that it's given mint value is between a 1/2 cent and a 2 cent piece!! and if you can figure that one out - I'll give you a "like" :)

There may be collectors looking for certain dates as well as some wanting partial sets.
After trying that I'd just roll them up and sell in bulk.
