Hi Folks.....OK...i bought this lot of 5 coins and one bottom left is deemed fake by bowers merena.......are all fake from these poor photos? One, if real, is valuable, the mausaleum dollar but I'm wondering what is real and what is fake. Heritage seemed to think real, bowers merena, fake.

Actually the bottom left coin actually looks dumb and I thought so when I bought them..............but that wasn't what I was interested in in that lot, it was the mausaleum dollar........marbury518

Hi. Photo isn't good enough to say something about this lot. First you need to check with the magnet. Magnet doesn't attract silver. Casted fakes have porous surface and usually too sharp rim. You can also drop the coin from small hight on the wooden table and compare the sound with some silver coin.

Sure......but has to have paid before you do those things and I wouldn't
think dropping a 5 or 6 thousand dollar coin was a good idea...

I'm a little confused.. you state you bought this lot; do you have the coins in your possession? Who did you buy them from? How much did you pay? How did the auction houses get to examine them? Why isn't the mausoleum dollar certified by a reputable TPG? Just way to many questions to give an informed answer, and the photos are much too small to even venture a guess to the legitimacy of the coins.

I won them at at antique auction, but have not paid yet and it was not a coin auction per se so it would be unlikely that they were examined by an authority. I guess I'll just pay and get them examined and if they are fake, return them. The amount I paid was not enough to worry too much about and maybe the old saying, 'if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.'

Consensus seems to be that they are all fake.......auction house agreed to give be my money back.......a lesson learnt perhaps.........j
