Are Modern World Coins Original In Design?

Are modern world coins original in design or just modern takes on ancient motifs?

If original, please post a coin and explain why it is original in design.

If a take on the ancients, please post pictures of a modern coin compared to an ancient coin and explain the similarities.

Most modern world coins are original designs and not copies of anything. The US redoes older designs but this isless common elsewhere. Many of the designs are excellent and very good art. I'm especially a fan of Stuart Devlin's work who has done designs for several countries.

 

Is the design on the American Silver Eagle original or based on an ancient design?

 

Not ancient, but perhaps the designer was inspired by " La Semuse " ?
