Take a straight edge, say a piece of paper, hold the edge on the upper portion of the 7....if you can see the top of the 1, 9 or 0 peeking above the paper edge, then it is a common date as in what you have. Happy Collecting
Nope. I searched for a '70 S small date for about 20 stinking years, trying to get one from circulation. I finally gave up and bought one that was NGC certified at MS 69
Those are large dates. I can't really tell by looking at the date, but looking at the "LIBERTY". I noticed it was sharply struck and not weakly struck like on a small date. Here's my 70-S Small date cent I just posted: http://www.cointalk.com/t136465/ Notice the "LIBERTY" is weakly struck?
