Dont see many people posting his coins but some might find this one a little kinda nice. I'm not certain with the RIC # and officina (looks like D but had B on the slip). Looks way better in hand and I was kind of surprised that it was at the shop so long. I guess people just passed it over after seeing the name and not looking in the flip. I almost got a forward facing coin which seems harder to find but it was pretty worn. Arcadius AE3. D N ARCADI-VS P F AVG, pearl diademed, draped, cuirassed bust right / VIRTVS-EXERCITI, emperor standing left, head right, holding spear and resting left hand on shield. Victory, standing beside him crowns him with a wreath which she holds in her right hand. EX: ANTD (or B) Antioch RIC IX 70 ?
Also got a cheap coin of Numerian and though I'd share it. 3 views Numerian Æ Antoninianus. Rome mint. IMP C NVMERIANVS P F AVG, radiate cuirassed bust right / VNDIQVE VICTORES, Numerian standing left, holding globe & sceptre, KAS in ex. Cohen 121. RIC 422
Already commented about them on Forvm. Love the arcadius. Very nice. The numerian is also cool. Both have been high on my want list, same with theodosius I.
Thanks. I almost got a nicer one of Numerian but he really wasn't a priority for me. Edit: also had to spend money on something else :hail:
D is not an option since that would have been a delta. I see the middle bar so this is definitely a B and a nice coin.
I have only one coin from Arcadius and it is small, 12mm: Arcadius - Bronze AE - Victory Pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right D N ARCADIVS P F AVG Victory advancing left, head turned right, holding trophy over right shoulder and dragging a captive behind her SALVS REI-PVBLICAE, CHI-RHO in left field CONSG in exergue (Constantinople Mint) Struck: AD 388-392 Size: 12.3mm Weight: 1.18gm Catalog: RIC 86(c)
I am surprised Mat, Arcadius and THeodosius I are both much more available than many of your other coins. Nice Arcadius Randy! Chris
Exactly, there is alot to choose from so thats made me slow to get them. There is a Theo I I have been eyeing for awhile, good details & 8g but its pourus. Arcadius I havent searched as much for. Many are AE4 and I dont want that size. Larger ones seem to be higher priced so I steer clear of them.
Yeah its hard to find good ones, and some of the smaller ones are too pricey as well. I have a couple AE 4's of Theodosius I (or II) but are hard to photograph and are kinda junky and an ae 3 that IDK if its Theodosius or Arcadius XD. Here's an AE3 of Theodosius I really like but it needs a little cleaning which makes it look crappy in the photo. I don't want to mess it up though, so I'm going to leave it alone.
Heres one of Theodosius I guess I did get a photo of http://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-41285 I have 2 more about like this one.
