    Hi
Im Mike, I am new to collecting, and I just spend about 50 bucks from of course aboncom and of course SGS graded MS70's. I actually found a post here saying about SGS and aboncom:computer: how its kind of Fraud and false grades. I am glad i seen it!! thank you!! I was actually bidding on more items, but then I retracted my bids after I read the post.

So now i spent 50 bucks on MS70 coins, didnt receive them yet. Lesson already learned not to buy coins slabbed from SGS. :desk::headbang:

But I would appreciate advice on what I should do.
How much is it to cross these over and get them regraded from a REAL grading service. Or what should I do?

    thanks

P.S thanks for whoever started and kept up with the other post telling others to stay away from SGS.:thumb:

What are you trying to accomplish?
Why are you interested in MS-70 TPG slabs?

Im trying to get into the hobby with some high grade coins. Thats why I was interested in the MS70 coins. They looked in nice condition in the picture.

It's not necessary to have high grade coins to get into the hobby.
A hobby is for pleasure and relaxation.
Seems worrying about the opinions of a total stranger would take the fun out of it.
    Wouldn't you agree?

I agree, its just that if a day comes that I have to sell some, I would have thought that the higher grade would be better to sell.

Im just getting worried that the ms70s i bought are going to come and they arent that great. I also bought the coin because I like the coin and I like the older years of the coins aswell.

It might be wise to start slowly.
Educating yourself can be more fun than actually dropping bucks on coins you know very little about.

I'd be more than happy to share what little I know, if you think it would benefit your hobby.
I have, well, a lot of coins, and can tell you nearly everything about each of them.
Their grade, value, facts about their history...all that plays an important roll in the pleasure of our hobby.

Years down the road, if you decide to sell, you'll know what to ask for, as far as price is concerned.
By that time, you'll have established contacts that can help you, if necessary.

    Good luck!

After you do that, stick around here, ask questions, learn, and don't buy any expensive coins untill you've learned more. I don't mean that to insult your intelligence or anything. I'm just saying, you should be educated about what your buying even iif it is just for fun. And in case you haven't heard yet, NGC and PCGS are the top 2 grading services, but even they can make mistakes. Welcome to the forum!

Thanks, I totally I agree with you guys! should I open them and show you pictures or just return them?

Actually lets see how bad I embarressed myself, the first time. Ok, how much are these worth lowest to highest price values. (they were supposed to be ms70 both)

Hi and welcome to the forum. It wouldn't hurt to take a look at them so that you can learn just how badly they overgrade coins. I would definitely ship them back. Feel fre to stick around here for awhile and you will learn quite a bit.

There's no reason to feel embarressed.
The propaganda campaigns, put out by outfits like NGC and PCGS, have cost many would-be investors and newbies countless dollars, and created an abundance of confusion about the hobby, in there never ending task of creating new markets.

    Relax.
    It's just a hobby.
Enjoy it for what it is.
Don't let anyone tell you differently.

First of all welcome to the forum.

    NOW....

Just what did you buy? Was it Morgan dollars, Lincoln Cents etc?

Now that you have MS70s knock those down to at least MS60, that's if you're lucky and they are not cleaned.

I may sound a bit brutal here and hope you don't take offense. You have ALREADY learned something form this site so keep using it.

If you can send those coins back without incurring a huge loss DO IT. Lose a few to get rid of garbage that no real collector will ever touch.

Jody has given some great advice. Go slow and learn the hobby. Start small, talk to people, use CoinTalk, buy some books (we can all recommend those as well). Doesn't have to be high grade to be worth something.

Make it a hobby that will last a lifetime and you may even make a few bucks in the long run.

Thanks for the welcomes guys. Already enjoying this site!

    The coins were

    1967 SMS Kennedy Half dollar

Supposed to be ms70, for the both

Also, if you don't buy the slabbed coins, if you buy raw coins, how do you tell if those were cleaned or not, Like some on ebay.

Like the others have suggested learn first. Sometimes it is really hard to tell if a coin is cleaned - some are more obvious than others. So learning is a first step. I also found that going to the local coin shop and just being nice can help the learning process. Make nice with them, ask questions. Another thing I found helpful was to buy some PCGS and NGC(and ANACS) coins I thought matched what the ANA grading book described for the grade. Then used them as guides and don't worry about making mistakes - I think everybody has.

When buying from Ebay - make sure there is a good return policy, make sure pictures are graded, check all feedback for a seller(all not just negatives). I use heritage coin auctions as comparison to Ebay. Actually some of my nice coins came from Heritage. And hey do not be shy about posting a link to an auction and asking questions.

If you have questions on the grades of coins - post pictures and ask for opinions. I agree with returning the SGS coins, but if you can post pictures and others will give their opinions.

Have fun and don't worry about mistakes, but with the learning you will minimize mistakes. Welcome to the board and I look forward to seeing pictures of your coins.

    Welcome :)

The folks here on this forum are the best around IMO. Im fairly new to this also and they have taught me an abundance of information. If your not sure about a coin, you can always post a link or pic and someone will answer. There is also no such thing as a "stupid" question here, so ask whatever you need to. Im sure you will grow to love this place as much as I have.

I learned to tell what cleaned coins look like, by cleaning coins and observing the results.
I know it sounds simple, and actually, it is.
Just take all kinds of pocket change...old, tarnished, new, brilliant...and clean them in as many ways as you can think of.

Some coins were almost always surely cleaned at one time during their history.
If it doesn't distract from the appearance of the coin, then the coin is still collectible to many folks, myself included.
Buying on eBay is the last place a newbie should consider.
Newbies don't know enough to recognize a "deal", from a scam.

There are countless reputable dealers who will deliver exactly what they say they will.
Those are the people who deserve your business.
You will pay full retail, but you will get what you paid for.
Doesn't get any fairer than that.

Could I have a dealer look at the coin within the slab or no, before I return them. Are those coins even worth keeping if they were ms60?

If you have doubts about any coin you want to purchase on Ebay try to post a picture of the coin here first for opinions before you bid. We will help you determine if a coin has been cleaned or not. You will also learn this through experience. Ebay isnt a good place to start buying coins when you're a beginner. It takes some years of knowledge and a little luck to keep yourself from getting the shaft buying from a place like Ebay unless you happen to be lucky enough to buy from an honest Ebay seller. I'll try to include some examples here for you of cleaned coins.
Here is my 1916-d Merc dime ANACS AG3 cleaned. The next picture is before and after of what you get if you put your coins in a rock tumbler...did I read that right? Rock Tumbler? Now I've heard it all.
