Here we go again. Dad gave me his collection of Apollo commemoratives to add to mine. I was a young officer on the HORNET when she recovered the astronauts on Apollo 11 and 12. Now I have more apollo coins than I know what to do with. I want to keep a set but want to market the rest. I have commem coins for Apollo 11 to Apollo 17. They range in .99 silver from 1.5 oz up to 5 oz. The 5 oz have serial numbers. I consigned some to the USS HORNET museum in Alameda CA but their concession operation was not keen on stocking and marketing this valuable a collectors item. Where would I find a market price for these coins? Am I going to have to market these as silver bullion? Seems a shame...The Apollo series of lunar landings were so significant...and there may be people out there (you would think) that like to collect these historic commemoratives.

    Any thoughts?

There are people that collect silver bars and rounds. Most collect with a particular theme in mind. For instance, animals, countrys, patriotic etc.
I collect those with designs of early American historical figures.
If you are thinking about listing them on an online auction, you can probably expect to get something over spot value for them. Hard to say exactly how much more. That would depend on how much interest they generate, and the terms an conditions of the auction.

I think you might want to investigate selling your Apollo coins to the space collecting market. NASA itself sells tons of stuff out of thier web page. If they could sell tin I would think you could get a good price for Silver. See if e-bay has a space collecters listing. Just put on a reserve to protect yourself.
