I bought some raws last week off a small sales site and thought I recognized something on this sellers pix. That's when I download his image and let my editor blow it up. I saw this 1880 80/79 lurking in with his commons. So I got this one , 3 more 1880, 1878CC and an 1850 Lrg Cent for $200 shipped. Quality is there but especially quantity...3 1880's F-VF, the 80/79 is AU with luster as is the CC and the cent is at least a F with errors. If someone out there is a VAMmer please check the marks on the right lower side of the 8 in 18 because it doesn't show them in the 80/79 example. Also take a look at the reverse of the Cent. There are cuts (damage ) hori. and vert. under CENT but there's a raised line under the N. Are there any www resources on VAM id? My books are from the 80's.

If it was an 80 over 79, wouldn't you expect to see what looks like "ears" from the "7" above the top of the second "8"?

@cpm9ball I don't know Chris. I used the example markers to spot it and didn't see the ears mentioned in other examples either. Like some DDO's, a nick here a chip there...

Go to the VAM World wiki http://vamworld.com/wiki/Morgan_VAMs_by_Date. The 80/79 is VAM 23 and #30 in the Top 100. An nice AU50 will bring about $100 and a nice AU55 about $250. Those prices are for accurately graded PCGS coins.

Your large cent is damaged. The line is cuts and metal pushed up by cuts. Value, about 5 bucks.

A G4 $19... notice the perpendicular cut goes through the raised line. Plus that's a lot of moved metal for a couple of knife slices....

Once a coin is damaged it is not worth "straight grade" values. Your coin is damaged and, yes, cuts move a lot of metal. I've seen far worse.

Not sure where you're getting your prices, but a G4 in even nice condition will not bring 19 bucks. You can buy these all day long out of dealer "pick @" boxes at shows for 12 - 15 bucks.

@tammiGee FYI, the previous poster has written numerous articles for The EAC Journal "Penny Wise" among other contributions to the early copper community. Just something to consider for future reference

Thanks! and the moral is? No disrespect intended just some tit for tat like I always do. And @RittenhouseCU I do appreciate your opinion and facts and in complete agreement with your damaged value assessment.
