Anyone make any homemade coin albums?

I have several coin albums, Harris and Whitman, to store my coins. However, I have accumulated enough coins to start to put together additional sets. I suppose I could buy some more albums at least $3 each, but that would really start to add up. Anyone house their coins in homemade albums? I was thinking perhaps thin cardboard the size of paper then 3 ring hole punching it to fit them in 3 ring binders, I suppose I would have to tape the coins in place but am afraid the tape would stick to the coins if they were in there for years to come. Any ideas that would work better? Thanks!

when you go to a coin show, there are often tables with old albums for free. (ex: Buena Park coin show) try that. just a suggestion.
please don't tape your coins to a homemade album!!!

No, don't worry, I have never and would not put tape on the coins. I listed a bad example :)

I have created several coin books using three ring binders, plastic coin pages, and 2"x2". After you add the prices of all these together though, it isn't always cheaper than buying a coin book. They have quite reasonable prices on the internet. I've had some luck with the wizzard coin supply.

Cardboard is unsuitable for storing coins, the acids in the wood particles alone will corrode and mis-color the metals in short order. Not to mention the glues that hold them together and the dyes to color them.

I wish my grandmother, my father, and I would have known this 50-35 years ago when we all started putting coins in holed albums. (Of course, mylar flips and non-pvc albums didn't exist back then, but I sometimes imagine what our combined coin collection might be now if they had!)

I transferred ALL except for junk duplicates and slabbed stuff to 2x2 flips which I keep in Bulldog vinyl pages that go in 3 ring binders. I use a label maker to name each flip because I think it looks better than hand printed.

I like it because I can build a set for whatever I want. I even have a set of comparison coins that has things like a 70S small date cent, 60 large and small date cents, etc that I use for comparisons. I have a greater flexability and unlimited expansion.

    It's working well for me.
