Here is a site that may help you (Assayer's Marks) http://www.melfisher.com/Library/AtochaCoin/Assayer.asp and a couple others that have good pictures too. http://www.newworldtreasures.com/cobs.htm http://www.coindatabase.com/ http://www.coins.nd.edu/ColCoin/ColCoinText/Sp-milled.5.html Good luck!
Hello everyone, This may help as well. it is a link to the Spanish Mint. There is a pdf in the collectors tab to download. Should have the answer. http://www.fnmt.es/index.php?lan=en Regards, Stan
None of the links so far posted list all the mint marks. In fact the only one that even list any of them is the Mel Fisher site and it only lists Spanish colonial.
OK, well basically, I'm trying to find out what mintmark a plain 'C' might be. The 'C' is uncrowned, with an 'S' to the left of it. In can't find any reference to this mintmark anywere....
If you'd post a pic, or tell me what coin it is on, I might be able to identify it for you. And are you sure that it is a mint mark and not a mintmaster's initials ?
No need now. I took your earlier advice and consulted Krause. It's from the Seville Mint.... Cheers all....
Just be aware that there were several different mints, in different centuries, that all used the C mint mark. Seville is only one of them. Hopefully you noticed this yourself and have identified it correctly.
