Hey all, I came across an interesting set of elongated silver dimes at a local shop recently. I've seen tons of elongated cents but never elongated silver dimes. What really made the set neat is the subject matter of the series. There is total of 6 coins that were in this gathering, I have no idea what would constitute a set for this series. The 6 different designs that came with the set were Draped Bust Half Dime, Capped Bust Half Dime, Liberty Seated Dime, Barber Dime, Mercury Dime and Roosevelt Dime. Whomever rolled these out made sure that the host dime went in obverse down to make sure the date on the host was visible. I have no idea as to what kind of market there is for these, but to me the price felt right for all 6, so I scooped them all up. If you know anything about these, I would sure love to hear it.

The ones with the bluish and greenish tint in places is actually an iridescent toning. It's very cool looking. I gave them a bath in acetone as the owner before me had kept them taped somewhere as well as with something containing PVC. A couple of them had a bit of green slime on them from the PVC.
Possibly Oded Paz might have some insight also. I know he deals in some of these, but more modern types. He's not been around for awhile but it's a thought.
Very cool looking, And interesting due to the series type stamping on them. I have a few elongated cents from places I have visited like parks and museums. Makes me wonder where these are from. A mint possibly?
I dug these up. But your dimes are much cooler. Most of them are from the Rio Grande Zoo or the Albuquerque Aquarium. But there are a few from 50th Anniversary Sea World, Wild Donkey Sanctuary in Oatman, AZ and Cave of the Winds.
I used to come across elongated cents all the time when I was hunting half dollars from the coin counting machines at the local banks. My kids loved getting them from me.
I think it's really neat that these (jtlee's) were done in silver. The best elongated's are done in original copper/silver.........

These were rolled by a Roller named Don Adams in 1972. Mintages for each of them ran about 800 pieces. I know they are on silver dimes and folks think they are older but... He did a whole series of them. Cents, Nickels, Dimes etc.. As for value on the ones you have.. I would say that if I seen them in a dealers case I would probably go $3-5 each on them. There really is no set price on these things. The highest price paid for an elongated was just set within the last couple of years at ~$4k, was the Pike from the Raymond Dillard Collection. Thank you for the info. I was holding back my assumption that they were old simply because they were on silver dimes. They could have been rolled yesterday and still used silver dimes. It's nice to have a back story on them. Thank you for the link, I really appreciate it.
Look at the date of the Barber, 1853? 4 years before the 1857 Seated Liberty Dime. Not sure why the inaccuracy in the dates appearing on some of the coins.
