Does anyone know more about this collection hitting the market now from Kunker? The very distinctive holders tie a very large number of recent coins in auction together. It would seem to be a collection built over a very long time frame. Some of the best quality group lots I have seen, but the prices realized reflect this. The group lot below realized 3300EUR compared to an estimate of 600EUR. I am guessing we will see these coins circulating in the trade for some time to come.
I know the Roman Egypt coins coming up were from a longtime collector who was a bigwig in German collecting circles for decades. I hear he was able to cherrypick the Dattari collection personally.
We talked about this in an earlier thread when I inquired about one of my coins in these holders. @Roerbakmix identified the consignor as Dutch collector, Ton Nuij.
Any reference to the roman egypt collection? I'm keen to pick up some more Hadrian/Pius drachms of the zodiac.
You and probably about 50 other deep pocketed collectors. Best of luck with that pursuit my friend. I would, but know I could never fight with those big dogs without digging into retirement funds, which I refuse to do.
I agree... this sale is going to be an absolute bloodbath but I won't go down without a fight! Many of these coins are irreplaceable although it's a shame that the set will be broken up. The estimates should just be ignored, for what it's worth.
I certainly wouldn't want to stop you from participating; it's just worth knowing that we all might be horrifically outbid. I'm planning a few bids between 10-30x the estimates and I fear I might not be anywhere near successful.
FWIW, if anyone is interested in the zodiacs, I am guessing it would take close to quarter of a million to buy the thirteen pictured in that auction, and that very well could be light. I personally would like 5 coins I have never seen for sale, but most likely will just avoid the sale so I do not get all depressed.
I’ve never bid in a Kuenker auction before but I’m confused why there don’t appear to be any bids and no countdown until a lot is closed, especially with the auction happening in a matter of days? I thought this was a timed auction not live? Any noob advice would be appreciated!
It's a live (feature) auction. The lack of bids I believe is because kunker does not post bids until the live auction
