I'd like to try to buy from them but the exchange rates and postage have me intimidated. Anyone have any experience with them?
they are cool. i bought from them multiple times. they still send me brochures but i really cant afford to buy non us coins right now
They handle exchange rates automatically on their web site. You just have to tell them you want to pay in US Dollars. I have found dealers on eBay who sell some Australian mint items below the mint's prices.
If they permit you to pay by credit card, the credit card company will handle the foreign exchange and usually give you a fair rate.
...anyone see their silver proof sets in the wood box? I think those are cool (maybe I should check ebay for lower prices).
their gold sets in wood are also great but quite heavy. they sent stuff t me from Australia and then i got there in the us and then i took them on a 8000 mile trip in hand so i know. its beautiful buy all you can
So will the bank, or an exchange bureau, or credit union, or anybody else. One might as well consider it part of the rate of exchange. And to be honest, I'm surprised one has to contact Australia for their coins. I know the Royal Mint maintains a North American office, and I'm surprised the Australians don't too.
For paying anyone for anything in any currency, check out www.xetrade.com. I've successfully used them on transactions as small as NZ$10, and as large as ¥500,000. You know in advance the exact exchange rate you will pay, with no hidden charges.
