Hmm, something went wrong with the image links, it seems. Could you post the addresses again, or attach the pictures to a message? Christian
This time the images made it But I cannot recognize much ... on one side there seems to be double headed eagle. So it could be Russian or maybe Austrian. Now I think that the inscription below the eagle is in Cyrillic characters, which would point towards Russia rather than Austria. On the other side there is a crowned monogram. Could be that of Catherine the Great but I am not sure at all. You may want to browse a list like this one http://www.ancientcoins.ca/russia3.html and click on each of the thumbnail images to see if one of the pictures looks like your coin. Christian
I think I saw this coin at my dealer's shop - or something similar... his was a 5 kopek coin from the 1800's.... I would venture to say that yours is either a Russian 2, 3, or 5 kopek coin from the same time period.... worth, according to my dealer friend, about $15-$20. ~AJ
It's a Russian 5 kopeks piece, and it looks to be in pretty good nick too. A nice chunky piece of copper. Unfortunately it was not possible for me to make out either the date or the mint mark from the scan. I think it reads 1796 and E M, which would make it one of the more commonly found pieces. My catalogue is a bit out of date, and I believe that Russian coins are becoming more and more popular these days. No world cruise from selling that one, but (IMHO) a coin with a value circa $20. Ian
thanks every one sorry about the potos i had to make them smaller to get them to work thanks for the help i should have sayed it was 1796 em
It's easy to make the file size for pics smaller just by cropping the picture to only the coins instead of all the background. This will also make the size of the coin in the pic larger and easier to see.
