Has anyone heard of this new thing or used it yet? It says that you dont have to pay for the item until 14 days after it has arrived to ensure that you got the right item. How does that work for the seller?
I assume this isnt really an ebay thing since they already offer buyer protection and a good return policy. This might be a new feature since they are about to split from ebay to provide some protection. They are going to have some issues though. Like fraud and lost items, how do you prove it and who pays for that?
I had an e bay store for many years. I did most everything asked other than free shipping . With the fees they charge plus double dipping with making payments only through pay pal , I became very disenchanted with E bay. The straw that broke the camels back was what they did to 250,000 sellers whom would not link their bank account and social security numbers with e bay/ pay pal. If you did not do both they would allow you to sell. However when the buyer paid and even left positive feed back. They would hold your money for 90 days. Then since they cover their butt after 90 days they would release your money. That was it for me.... oh let's not forget sellers lost the right to leave feed back.
14 days to pay..if you have the contacts then that would give the buyer 10 plus days to sell it on for a profit elsewhere before actually paying for the actual item?
I use it all the time when I buy things. It's a great feature. The seller gets paid up front and you can get your merchandise before you pay. What I always do is go in and pay it right away after I receive the item in the mail. That is a feature you can use in the older version. The newer version has a link you can use to go to the older version and pay it right away. Saves waiting for it to hit later....and it comes out of my ebay bank acct., not out of paypal. You have to opt in to use this feature and it isn't always available. You can't use it for some sellers and paypal doesn't always give you that option when you check out to pay.
With some children I've known I can see where that could be a good deal for the buyer. Get your item free and get rid of a major headache at the same time.
It's not new -- been around at least a couple years. It's basically a "free" 14 day loan from PayPal (they pay for the merchandise for you), and then they don't withdraw from your account until after the item arrives. I have only (inadvertently) used it once -- because it somehow was set as the default and I wasn't paying attention. I NEVER use it on purpose because I like things to be paid for and come out of my accounts at the time that I order them. I don't want to have to remember "oh yeah, that $400 is going to come out of that account in 14 days"... I have never really understood what the point of the program was. For me, it has no utility.
