Anyone have Mitchner's reference work to help identify this French token.

    Can't find any information on this French silver jeton. I think it may have been minted early to mid 1600's. I'm curious to see if its listed in Mitchner. Thanks. 1.JPG 002.JPG

    I can read on reverse: Extraordinaire De La Guerre. That is Extraordinary of war. I might have thought of a medal or token during the war. I don't know which one.

    @Redseal

    It was listed in the Addendum, p. 1562, plate 4439

    Crowned paired shields of France and Navarre with crowned letter "L" below: all in double collar of the Order of St. Michael:
    EXTRAORDINAIRE DE LA GUERRE
    Rev. Hand emerging from cloud, brandishing thunderbolt above a tree, whose branches are breaking off:
    AUT . CEDERE . AUT . CAEDI
    Silver: 5.50gm: 27mm

    Issued during the reign of Louis XIV with the earliest ones dating 1647.

    Thanks much. Here are a few more. I do not need these referenced. I think the first two from the 1600's are quite rare.
