Does anyone have any info on this crate? I picked it up at auction a few years back. Its in great shape, and Im not sure if its actually from carson city Mint in 1887.
Yes,Im pretty sure it has,Just never know if it may have been stashed away for many years. There isnt any info on the net about it at all.
Why not call or write the Carson City Mint Museum and ask them - http://www.visitcarsoncity.com/attractions/museums.php
Thanks for the comments and advice folks,I will try emailing museum again, did before and never got a reply,And cant find a thing about this box on internet. Its either a reproduction,or real. But if it was a reproduction, you would think there would be some sort of info somewhere.
I just found this on net...This may be a real crate after all!! http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/3125105
Very nice Crate! However the Denver Crate does not have the handles, or am I not looking at it right? Either way, I'd love to have it! Regards, Stan
Yes that is the only difference.I know the ropes on mine cannot be original,But Morgan Dollars weigh a lot more than Nickles,so That may have been standard on those crates.
Looks like someone added some nails into the dove tails later on,And the nails are modern,Maybe they thought it would help keep together,Box is solid.
