I would like to pick one of these up, but they seem a little hard to come by (in terms of all the different groschens out there). Hopefully, I'll be able to snag one at a show one day or possibly through vCoins. My wife is Czech, and this is the only coin I think she'd approve of me spending money on, ha. Just curious if anyone has one, what they paid for it, etc. I'd like to spend around $40 - $80 for one, which I think is do-able.
Jhonn, surely, you are meaning that you are looking for a Bohemian Groschen that was struck at Prague? I haven't got one of those, unfortunately. Aidan.
Guess that, when he wrote about Prague groschen, he was referring to Prague groschen. Those were minted or struck at Kuttenberg (Kutná Hora). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prague_groschen Christian
Yes, I think Prague groschen is the more colloquial term for Bohemian groschen from the Kunta Hora mine. The rulers on these coins were generally kings of Bohemia, it seems.
Don't have any myself, but the price range you posted seems to be realistic. I briefly searched at a German site which currently lists nine Prague Groschen coins: http://www.ma-shops.de/ (German version) http://www.coins.muenzauktion.com/ (English) Enter prager groschen, check "All" below, and click the "Search in all MA-Shops" button. It may be easier or safer for you to buy one from a dealer near you, but this should give you an idea ... Christian
Thanks for the info! I checked eBay too, and though I always stay far away from that place, it did give me a general idea for my price range.
I have dug two, one a beaut, one a dog, not too hard to find here. Gave beaut to 5 year old niece, wanna guess where it is now?
