I thought perhaps some of the star-note collectors here could help with this: I got an email about a week ago reporting a 2004A $50 found in circulation with serial number GB00058xxx*. The BEP never reported printing any New York stars in that series, so there may be an unreported print run out there. The plate position of the reported note was F4, which would seem to indicate that the whole run was only 64,000 notes. In that case it'd be one of the smallest star runs in quite some time. Has anybody else seen a $50 with a GB..* serial? Confirmation of this run would be greatly appreciated....
i see very few $50's lol but the ones i do have are not one you are looking for, sorry. good luck though, i do love the work yopu do!!!
I'm slow to do things involving the safe, but as I keep at least one of every series/district combination I come across, I'll check the binder when I get a chance.
Just in case anyone is interested: I just received confirmation from the BEP that, yes, 64,000 of these GB..* $50 notes were printed in February 2007. That makes them the scarcest circulation-issue star printing in a number of years, so be on the lookout for these (especially if you're trying to put together a New York collection!).
good catch numbers. Unfortunately, i dont know ANYONE who is only interested in putting together a New York Set
