I have a complete run of proof sets from 1954 through 2006 (and will get the 2007-2008 sets) and I'd like to put them into albums. Eagle makes proof set albums that accomodate the plastic proof set holders 4 to a page. I'm having a little trouble understanding their pricing. From the catalog listings I've seen, the binders seem to be ordinary 3-ring binders with brown colored covers. A complete set (5 albums; 1 flat pack and 4 plastic-case albums with a total of 23 pages) would cost $155-165 depending on the vendor. The 23 album pages could be purchased for about $91 ($3.95 each). This means the cost of 5 3-ring binders is $70-$80 ($14-$16 each). They would have to be very special binders to be worth that much. Does anyone know 1. Whether the binders are standard 3-hold size? 2. Do the binders have special features (like exterior labeling) that make them worth several times the cost of a standard 3-ring binder?
i have morgans in an eagle album and the rings are differently shaped than normal 3 ring binders( rectangular rather than round). there is a pocket inside cover with diagram of pages which you can write contents on. that is only difference i see in regard to it. i don't know how a regular binder would work in regard to the pages. not sure you can use them with a standard 3 ring binder as it probably wouldn't lay correctly. if you can find a binder with rectangular "rings" it would work. they are a nice way to display your coins. the certified album i have holds all three major grading service slabs. hope this helps and good luck collecting your proof sets!
Pics??? I may want to do this too... I'm working on building Both Proof and Mint Sets from as early as I can to current....
Here is the page at JPs corner: http://www.jpscorner.com/Eagle_Slab_Certified_Coin_Proof_Mint_Set_Albums.htm#Proof_Album
Wow, that album looks like a pretty good idea... I like to be able to page though all the years... I think it'd be cool to have Tabs for Each year or maybe section it by Decade... But I gotta wonder, do you loose any value, buy not having the Origianal Mint packaging (Mint boxs or envelopes)and COAs???
I'm not getting rid of the original mint boxes or envelopes. I don't keep the sets in them anyway, because I don't want to wear them out by opening and closing them frequently. As soon as I get a set I take it out of the box and store the box and COA in a ziplock bag in a safe place. I have been keeping my plastic encased sets in the boxes that the Mint sells. These can accomodate 2-lens sets in their boxes (20 lens total), but they work just fine with the lenses out of the boxes. I drop a silica gel packet in each box to keep the interior dry. It's sort of a pain to take them out if you want to see them. But there's nothing comparable for the flat pack sets. An album is ideal for them.
